Saltstack has announced a new release to fix some CRITICAL vulnerabilities,
including allowing remote code execution by [R 1].
We are aware that these vulnerabilities are being actively exploited.

Actions required/recommended

Any site running Salt should Upgrade to Salt v3000.2 / v2019.2.4 [R 2] urgently
if they have not done so already.

Sites should also follow SaltStack's best practices for securing Salt [R 3]

SVG is issuing this alert as we are aware that some sites in the infrastructure
are using Salt and the issue is described by the software providers as
'CRITICAL' [R 1].  From their description this fits with our criteria for a
vulnerability we would assess as 'CRITICAL'.
We are also aware that these vulnerabilities are currently being actively
exploited, so sites running Salt need to take action urgently.

This advisory has been prepared as part of the effort to fulfil EGI SVG's

procedure [R 4]  in the context of how the software is used in the EGI
infrastructure. It is the opinion of the group, we do not guarantee it to be
